Conservative Ideals Continued
My buddy Donny has taken me to task for my blind defense of the Clintons . . . while, I may add, agreeing to the basic premise of my last article regarding the growth of government and fiscal irresponsibility of the Bush administration. However, in reading the previous article . . . Economic Failures and Foolish Errands . . . it is easily discovered I don't blindly support Bill Clinton and anyone who has kept up with this website knows I took a long time prior to deciding to cast my vote for Hillary in the Arizona primary.
It is fair to say I did not completely clarify my meaning regarding Bill Clinton's not being convicted of anything. He was impeached on obstruction of justice and perjury charges by the U.S. House of Representatives then acquitted by the Senate. Both votes--partisan. He was also cited for contempt of court. The end result--he was esentially disbarred. What I meant to deal with was that out of the 70 million tax payer dollars used to investigate Whitewater and whatever else went on there was nothing uncovered except for sexual misconduct. No criminal charges surfaced at all. As for the need to get beyond partisanship, I agree whole-heartedly but there is no way to do this without the Republican Party taking responsibility (one of their buzz words) and acknowledging how they screwed up. No one else did. They controlled the government unimpeded for eight years.
It is important to realize the critical role Republican's played in getting rid of the debt and fixing a lot of things in the federal government from 1994 to 2001. Then they lost their way and were held accountable in 2006 but this president still refuses to act in good faith as shown in his budget and his 'my way or the highway' methods of dealing with out country and this is crucial.
Coming to the current race and working on the ability to take on the critical and important issues. It seems to me John McCain is promising more of the same. Hillary Clinton has the abilities to work across party lines and the knowledge of how to move that gigantic monster, the federal government. Obama has a message which is obviously resonating. Huck is still hanging in there and Ron Paul supporters continue with their message of insanity. The issues are going to be there for whichever of these enters the people's house in January, 2009, thanks to the current resident who will leave a mess. Partisan Republicans just won't admit it.
