PB301562.JPGFlagstaff's first snowfall of the winter 2007-2008. Not a great amount but decent. None down below the mountain at my house but enough up at Lockett Meadow, on the back side of the mountain, to get in a little cross county skiing in. Quite a few people out and about today, checking out the results of the storm. Lots of rain at lower elevations. I would imagine the other side of town got hit harder. Just beautiful. Something about snow that ushers in winter, says so-long to the lingering fall, and makes the holiday season come alive. These photos come from a drive up along Mount Elden. Not much snow along the roadway at lower elevations. Quite a bit of rain for this part of the country. All of these pictures are within the Coconino National Forest about five minutes from my house. The entire drive time up to Lockett Meadow, the place to ski after the first snow, is probably about 30 minutes straight. I stopped along the way to get some shots of the different levels. The road on the left is Elden Springs Road. A great place to ski with enough snow, later in the year. At the moment, as can be seen, the road is open and just a bit muddy. Climbing elebation, though there was a decent snowfall, seen in the two shots above.
