Vote for Joe Biden

The official endorsement of the online journal Politics and Nature goes to Joe Biden. Nope he doesn't have much of a chance, but he's still trying and if more people listen to what he's said and how he conducts himself, he will garner a great deal of votes in Iowa and possibly rocket him into the top three or even four and provide a chance for him to win the nomination of the Democratic Party.

Biden has the experience and the history required to make a great presidential figure. He has been in the Senate for 35 years, often a problem because opponents focus on the myriad of votes taken by a senator out of context and twisting it into whatever they wish to scare the voting public into believing. Never-the-less, his judgement is sound, he is principled, he has conducted himself with grace and dignity in guiding the senate foreign relations committee and the judiciary committee, he is widely respected by the leadership of both parties and by world leaders.

There is so much petty garbage going on now about the war and foreign relations. For example, Mitt Romney is on C-Span now asserting that he will not give up until we win. What he fails to point out is what winning means. In his strange world existing on the edge of conservative politics, he has no idea what that means.

Biden does. On the other side of the aisle, the contenders fall over themselves trying to show how tough they are. There are plenty of people that believe the nation has seen enough of that over the past seven years.

This judgement on my part comes, not from this election cycle or any type of ads etcetera, but from 20 years of paying close attention to politics and how decisions have been made in this country. Senator Biden, unlike many of his opponents, speaks clearly and gives straight answers, often with uncanny common sense.

He is able to communicate effectively, he understands how to compromise and has a better handle on the international realities than any of the candidates in either party (it is likely that most of the other candidates would admit the same).

He will lead the United States in the international arena with vision, strength, and wisdom. He will listen to other leaders and to all of the parties within the states as well. He understands that this is not a petty dictatorship, no matter how much easier that would make the job in the White House.

There is a connection between leadership and diplomacy that has been missing from that halls of power for some time. (side note: Romney is now quoting Tom Tancredo from the debate in order to pander to the conservatives in the party again). Biden would restore a sense of dignity within the office, he'll bring back a sense of honor in the political process. The only candidate on the other side who has this ability in John McCain.

Biden has little chance of winning. Current polls in Iowa and New Hampshire have him running in the single digits. He is rarely receives new coverage and folks around the nation are just too enamored with Hillary v Barack to take much notice of the senior senator from Delaware. At worst, Joe Biden may become secretary of state under a democratic administration but it would be good for the country to have him in the oval office.
